Heart Coherency
I was first introduced to the concept of Heart Coherency through Heart Math Institute and the book The Secret Teachings of Plants by Stephen Buhner. I have also been reading The Vagus Nerve and The Autonomic Nervous System that also talks about Heart Coherency (yes - this is what I read to relax).
It is beyond my skill set to do a true review of these books and what Heart Math Institute does. What I’d like to do is give you a bullet list of a few things that have been discovered about the heart in the last decade or so. I find it illuminating and gives me perspective - I hope it does for you as well.
Here are the highlights:
“Heart Coherency begins when the location of consciousness is shifted from the brain to the heart”
The heart acts as an endocrine gland - it is one of the major endocrine glands of the body.
One of the hormones made by the heart (ANP) has a direct affect on the kidneys, lungs, liver, adrenal cortex, and brain
The electromagnetic field of the heart is the most powerful of the body - a thousand times more intense than that of the brain.
This electromagnetic field created by the heart expands beyond the body. They can measure it about 4 meters out, but it is believed that could go indefinitely. (see my story below for my experience).
“Electrical and magnetic energy, in combination with other forms of energy, radiate from the body and travel into space as organized patterns of energy.”
This field permeates every cell of the body!
It seems that the heart can perceive, make decisions, and take action independent and faster than the brain. AND it has its own memory.
The heart influences all of the other EMF fields of the body, including the brain.
Heart coherency could have a positive affect on the Vagus nerve. More studies on being done on this.
The heart is the door to our intuition. This, along with creativity, is key to a balanced Autonomic Nervous System (aka sympathetic and parasympathetic).
My Story of Experiencing Heart Coherency
In 2017 I went to DC for the Women’s March with my daughter and my college girlfriends. As part of our evolution as graduates of the Modern Dance Department, we had participated and performed at environmental and political events. So going to the Women’s March was well under our bailiwick. The night before the March we gathered to go over our plans. We thought that maybe 250,000 people where going to be there. I had just read Stephen Bruhners book about Heart Coherency and how the electromagnetic energy of the heart surrounded our body and impacted those around us up to 15 feet away and more. I suggested we be in our hearts, let it resonant in love and joy as we marched with thousands of people. I suggested that maybe if we started this heart centeredness that perhaps it could spread throughout the March, maybe it would go around the world. Some people raised their eyebrows at me and some were totally on board. It didn’t phase me one way or another, I had total certainty of its capacity to have an impact.
The next day we got on the train and rode into the protest area. The energy was high, it was electric, our skin had goosebumps and we were so excited to be present. Once we got to the protest area I thought “okay everybody get your heart coherency going and see what we can do to make a big change”. I quickly realized it was already there. For the next 4-5 hours we stood. We couldn’t hear anything but only see a screen that celebrities were singing or talking. We didn’t have any wifi so we couldn’t look at the news. We had kids with us from 9 - 14 years old. For four hours every single person was kind, considerate, helpful - this was with limited access to bathroom, food and basically no where to sit down. When someone around us expressed a need, everyone responded with great kindness.
We had no idea we were over a million strong at this point. We had no idea the March had been cancelled. We all (meaning everyone) collectively decided to March to the White House. No one talked about it, we all just knew.
At one point our group decided to not go to the White House but to go towards a hill across from the White House. We had to cross a big street that was 6-8 lanes wide. My step-son (who lives there), had us all hold hands. He said strong and clearly, “we are coming through as a family, please let us through”. This was probably the most amazing thing I’ve ever experienced. Every single person across all of these lanes stopped, with their hands out, with gentle smiles on their faces, guiding us until we got across. We all felt that we were being held and honored as a family unit.
At the end of the day, we had walked about 10 miles, had very little food or water, and it was colder than we planned. My 14 year old daughter looked at me and said “this was the best day of my life”.
The next day I turned on the TV and saw that there were protest all over the world. I couldn’t help but wonder if my dream of spreading Heart Coherency around the world had come true.
